Babies Situation:

How exciting - the girls are 3 weeks old today. Trinity is back to 2 lbs - awesome work little one. Initial culture results come back - Trinity and Kinsley have Klebsiella. They did a suction of fluid from the throat - called a tracheal aspirate to test for infection. Kinsley also has CON's (this is a staff infection in the lungs - not ideal but treatable). Our Doctor is now ordering cultures more frequently for them - every 2 days or so to keep on top of these infections. They are both getting Fortifier now added to Mom's milk. Trinity is taking 4.5 cc's/hour continuously. Kinsley is taking 3.5 cc's/hour. They got Lasix a cleansing diuretic to help clear out some fluids in the lungs and help them with their breathing. Trinity is only getting 1 blood gas per day now (in Pharma terms they say Q24). Kinsley gets them every 6 hours or Q4. Their blood results seem good so far. However, the infections are causing blockage in their throats and the girls have to get suctioned often (every hour or so). If they don't get suctioned they typically have Apnea's and Brady's. Kinsley now weighs 1 lb 11 ounces and is trying to gain on her sister but still has a little ways to go. Kinsley got another bath (this time by Serena, her Nurse) this evening and Trinity decided to have another poo party but this time Mom, Andrea, her Nurse, and Serena, all partook in the festivities.

Parent's Thoughts:

We owe a huge praise - the girls are 3 weeks old, they have fantastic Nurses and Doctors taking care of them, and have all of you around the country praying for them. We feel very blessed but even with all of these great things, the past couple of days have worn us down a bit. We know things change quickly here so we continue to try to stay on an even keel and just ask for strength, energy, and patience.

Our Daily Encouragement:

And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

1 Kings 19:11-12

Thank you for posting the link on facebook. I read through most of it. Wow. I am very impressed with the little ones. Reading some of the things and looking at some of the pictures nearly brought tears to my eyes. Very inspirational. God works wanders. I will continue to pray for the girls and the family. God Bless.

  2. Trena and Keith - I didn't have any idea you were expecting twins until I saw your Facebook page (Trena.) Congratulations on your two beautiful little girls - what an incredible blessing. I am so sorry they're having to go through all of this, and that YOU are having to endure a lot as well. I'm glad you have friends and family who are thinking of you and praying often; I will join them.

I saw the adorable photos of your daughter with Keith's ring... loved it. I'd be happy to visit you at the hospital If you'd like to get some photos of the girls at this stage of the game. It would all be completely free of charge - my gift to them, and you. Just call or email if you're interested. God's peace to you as you travel this wonderfully exciting and trying time.

    Best,

  4. Trena,

I loved seeing the pictures and reading through the blog. You have two amazing and beautiful daughters. Your story reminds me of being in the NICU with Maya although it wasn't quite the same since she was only 10 weeks early. By the way, she just turned 5 this week and is an amazing girl.

My thoughts and prayers are with the babies and you and your family. I wish the girls a speedy recovery through the infections so then they can just focus on fattening up and going home.

    Love,
    Sangeeta

  5. We are thinking of you and praying for y'all over here in Louisiana! Stay strong and hopeful. Those babies are stronger than we all know... and they will make sure you keep up with their strength too! And I know you both will.
