Babies Situation:

It was a difficult day. A timely visit from our close friend, neighbor, and Pastor at Riverbend Church, Pat Abbott, brought some much needed comfort to the situation today. He reminded us through prayer that God is in control and that we should not worry but trust him in all things. It was a true blessing and privilege for us to have him visit and pray over the girls.

Things got worse this morning for Trinity. The blood in her stool yesterday is causing concern. She had a few Apnea's in a 30 minute window and had a lot of residuals from her feeds. Our Doctor, Steve Diven, the girls primary Doctor, decided it was best to stop all her feeds, put her back on IV, and unfortunately start her back up on antibiotics. Dr. Diven explains she could have the following: nothing at all (the best situation), a urinary tract infection (not good), a blood infection (worse), or Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) the most serious. Most of you probably know about the first 3 in the list. The 4th is the following: "Necrotizing" means the death of tissue, "entero" refers to the small intestine, "colo" to the large intestine, and "itis" means inflammation. For preemies this is very dangerous as it causes destruction of the bowel or part of the bowel. We pray that it is not NEC. Some positive signs though came when they did a CBC (complete blood cell - white and red) check. Results looked good. They did a culture, urine sample, and another X-Ray. It will take a few days before they get any results of what is actually going on with her.

Kinsley on the other hand is doing better with her breathing. They reduced her CPAP to 9 and her lungs look good but her Apnea's went up a bit. They attribute this to the small change and are not too concerned about it. Her feeds remained at 6.5 cc's continuously.

Parent's Thoughts:

This was a tough day for us. It was really nice to be reminded that it is not our plan and it is not in our hands. It is definitely a step backwards for Trinity but our Doctor is being very proactive in treating the situation. We are very grateful that all the Doctors are so precautionary in treating the girls. We pray that Trinity gets through this situation with minimal impact and our Doctor has the wisdom to make the right decisions. Please pray for her... and thank you all for the continued support.

Our Daily Encouragement:

You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust."

Psalm 91:1-2

  3. I found your blog through PinkleToes photography...your daughters are beautiful!

As the mom to 26 week preemie twins, I understand what you are going through....the ups and downs of the NICU, the unknowing, and the pure love and joy of seeing/being with your new precious miracles. I know it's hard, but stay strong and continue to put them in God's hands. He will take care of you all.

Many prayers for your little ones, and extra prayers that Trinity does not have NEC.

My son had a PDA and they gave him Indocin to close it. It worked, but caused a spontaneous perforation in his small intestines. Thanks to the quick and knowledgable doctors, he eventually only had to have 5cm removed and is now doing great. I know it's so hard to see them struggle.

I know you are busy, but here is a link to my blog that has lots of pictures of our now 4year old 26weekers. (4 years old will be here before you know it!) :) www.mom22miracles.blogspot.com

  4. I came upon your blog through Pinkle Toes photography. Your girls are gorgeous! I love their names. My husband and I went throught 5.5 years of infertility treatments and have a beautiful 5 year old from Guatemala. When times were bad, a friend of mine shared Isaiah 55:8-9 with me. Take a look. God will use it to help you through this. Girls are wonderful, aren't they? I hope to read an update soon saying they are home safe and sound.
