Babies Situation:

Trinity hit a really nice milestone today- 2 lbs - a huge unexplained gain in a a matter of hours. Our nurse weighed her 3 times to make sure this was accurate as Trinity only weighed 1 lb 12 ounces on her last weigh in. She has also grown in length from 11.9 inches to 12.2 inches. We are very blessed that she is making slow and steady progress even though she is still working through the ups and downs with her breathing. She has been having some minor issues with her ventilator and our respiratory team even had to switch out ventilators to rule out any concerns about the equipment. Trinity unfortunately has had a couple of major DSAT's today but it is mostly when they are moving her around and doing their assessments.

Our Doctor will be weaning both Trinity and Kinsley off of the Keppra medication by the end of this week. We pray that their central nervous systems have developed enough where we do not see any more of the rhythmic movements that caused them to be put on this medication.

Kinsley got a bath late last night. She also gained an ounce which is great. She now weighs 1 lb 10 ounces. The goal right now is to gain at least an ounce a day. However she is longer than Trinity now at 12.6 inches. Mom got to witness one of her X-Ray's today. She was asked to step back so she couldn't see all of it. The X-Ray was ordered to make sure her feeding tube was in the proper place. The placement of any of these tubes (feeding, ventilator, etc...) are very, very, important. They take X-Ray's to ensure they are in the right place and then move the tube if necessary based on the results. Since these 2 little nuggets are so active, they sometimes move the tubes on their own which could pose problems.

These tubes can also build up bacteria so they are constantly monitoring any signs of infection. There are multiple tests and even cultures that monitor this situation. They are being very pro-active about infections which is really really nice. We are very appreciative of all of their efforts in the NICU - Doctors and Nurses alike.

Parent's Thoughts:

We have hit 19 days now and the girls are fighting through it. We are a little concerned that they are still having difficulties with their breathing but know that this is typical for babies at this stage. There are always risks when they bounce between room air and ventilators so we pray that the settings and tubes are all acting appropriately and the girls are comfortable but also not too comfortable. We need them to register that they need to continue breathing. We have a long way to go but are very grateful that they are doing OK overall.

Our Daily Encouragement:

Let all the people of Jerusalem shout his praise with joy. For great and mighty is the Holy One.

Isaiah 12:6
