Friday April 24th

Babies Situation:

What a great feeling, it’s Friday!! The weekend has been long awaited. Trena’s friend Monica Willenberg met the babies today. Monica also had twin girls in this NICU 18 months ago so it’s been nice for Trena to have her support.

Today has not been a good day for Trinity. The x-ray of her abdomen showed a loop in her bowel so the doctor decided to keep her off feeds and get a PIC line put in for her nutrients and antibiotics. Unfortunately, IV’s only last 24-48 hours so the PIC line is favorable. Also, more nutrients can be given through the PIC line which will help her to continue to gain weight. The doctor plans to re-introduce feeds on the 28th and will have to start from scratch. She will slowly be built back up to full feeds. Poor Trinity, the specialist was unable to get the PIC line in which means another IV had to be put in until they could try later. Well, Mom left the room to pump and when she came back, Trinity had an IV in her HEAD!! What a shock. Let me tell you, no one wants to see an IV in their baby’s head. Tomorrow, we should find out the final results of the blood culture. So far, nothing has grown.

Kinsley is having somewhat of a better day. She is at 21% oxygen and doing great - Thank you Lord!! She is still on IV and antibiotics while Dr. Diven decides what the next step should be with her. They did take a blood culture and urine sample today just to rule out a urinary tract infection and blood infection. Again, the doctor is being proactive.

Mom did get to hold both babies today. Kinsley did great as normal. She definitely enjoys kangaroo care time with Mommy. Due to Trinity’s rough day, her kangaroo time was cut short. She would tolerate one minute but turn to being very squirmy the next. She even had an A & B during the hold which freaked out both Mom and Dad. After that, we decided it was best to put her back into her isolette. She had gone through a lot of stimulation that day and kangaroo care was just too much.

Parent's Thoughts:

This week has been somewhat more stressful than the week before. We were at the point where we were having more good days than bad. What a relief. Then all of a sudden we were hit with the feeding issue. We knew the feeding stage was critical but deep down, we were hoping it wouldn’t be an issue with our babies. We dreaded the thought of the nurse finding blood in their diapers. Last week, Trena was sitting in the NICU when another Mother down the way found blood in her baby’s diaper. She could see the fear on her face. Trena told me that her heart stopped for a minute while she thought how thankful she was that it wasn’t her. Well, it did and it’s here. Fortunately, we have great doctors who have been telling us from the start how important feedings are and how they will do what it takes to protect the babies intestines. We also have God on our side so we know it will all be ok.

Our Daily Encouragement:

Our hearts ache, but at the same time we have the joy of the Lord. We are poor, but we give rich spiritual gifts to others. We own nothing, and yet we enjoy everything.
